General FAQs

Who can enroll in Nevada Passport Academy?

Nevada students who are under 21 years of age or younger on September 30th of the year they are enrolling, have previously withdrawn from high school, and have completed enough credits to graduate from the program before turning 21 may apply to NVPA.

Does this school meet state standards?

Yes, this is a public school that participates in all state mandated testing. All curricula are aligned with state standards.

What subjects are offered?

English, math, science, and history are the core courses. Students also have access to a comprehensive catalog of elective courses that include physical education, health, personal finance, and world languages.

What if the student falls behind?

Class sizes are small and will vary based on student needs, as determined by regular assessments. Students who need more support in mastering a subject will receive that support while more advanced students are challenged to take their learning further.

Are textbooks and other instructional materials provided?

Yes, we provide all the textbooks and instructional materials that are needed to complete the program.*

Will I have the same graduation opportunities as students in traditional public schools?

Yes. We are a public school in Nevada, so you can earn a diploma through NVPA, based on successful completion and mastery of course content and state exams.

Can I work at my own pace?

The pace of the program is flexible, but important benchmarks must be reached within certain timeframes, including state/school-required assessments every year and demonstration of academic gains for each semester you are enrolled in the program. Workshops, ongoing development, and extra instructional tutoring are available to assist you in reaching these important benchmarks. For students who are not able to graduate by the time they are 21, NVPA will work with state entities to support our students in obtaining a Nevada State Certificate of High School Equivalency.

How do students interact socially?

They will have a chance to participate in many collaborative activities, including science experiments, literature discussions, and feedback sessions on written work.

Where do your graduates go after graduation?

Graduates will have all the opportunities for college and career afforded to any student who obtains a standard high school diploma.

Upon graduation, what school name will appear on the diploma?

Diplomas are granted by "Nevada Passport Academy", a recognized public school in the state of Nevada.

Does NVPA only serve low-income students?

NVPA is designed to help all Nevada students under the age of 21 on September 30th of the year they are enrolling, who have not completed high school, get back on track and earn a diploma. We are here for students who need a second chance and a fresh start.
